Stationery Systems: The Dancing Cat
For this project, I chose to work on The Dancing Cat, a non-profit organization that operates a community-based adoption lounge for cats in downtown San Jose. With a target audience primarily consisting of cat lovers, I aimed for simplicity in the document design. Historically, the organization had limited advertising beyond social media. The overarching mission is to create a community for cat enthusiasts and actively contribute to finding homes for feline companions.

Unlike many adoption centers that focus solely on kitten adoptions, prioritizing the smaller and cuter cats, The Dancing Cat takes a more comprehensive approach. Recognizing that kittens have a shorter lifespan as they grow into full-sized cats, the organization seeks to address the issue of mature cats being overlooked. These cats often face the risk of never finding a home and may end up in shelters or on the streets. Witnessing the plight of homeless animals, including cats and dogs, evokes empathy among cat-loving individuals. Supporting places like The Dancing Cat provides an opportunity for mature cats to have a second chance at finding a new home while residing in the lounge.

When designing the logo, I prioritized emphasizing the cat element, experimenting with various approaches that balanced focus on both typography and imagery. Simplicity was crucial in the logo's design, as demonstrated in the mock-up documents, where a minimalistic approach yielded better results. Integrating the company name with the logo required careful consideration of letter sizing to ensure the prominent elements of the logotype stood out while remaining readable.
In crafting the accompanying document, I opted for a professional aesthetic, enhancing the logo with a transparent look to create a cohesive design. While preserving the original colors, I added a colored line on the side to unify the document and reinforce their brand identity.
The business cards embraced a simple yet effective design. The front featured a prominent display of their brand logo and name, while the back incorporated a practical layout for contact information, allowing for customization based on the individual associated with the lounge.
For the envelope design, I pursued a blend of ambition and simplicity. The front showcased an enlarged logo, taking the lead in branding. This not only maintained a straightforward and clean approach but also added a touch of ambition and playfulness, resonating with the feline theme on a personal level.
